Today, the day after midterm elections, I'm thinking about a recent conference workshop presentation. Do you remember how you felt when you had to show up to work on the day after the 2016 election? How did it feel to log in to a work Zoom after the murder of George Floyd? Was there a feeling in the pit of your stomach after the January 6th insurrection? Today we should recognize there will always be a "day after." We need tools to practice self care and intentional, justice centered care for others. Dr. Alyssa Dunn's work informs my approach to coaching clients to be ready for unpredictable moments. Somatic practices help me help clients to process the big feelings that try to overwhelm our bodies and cripple our responses. When we equip ourselves with the right tools, we can be ready for almost any "day after."
